HWPL and IPYG Train Young Peace Leaders Through Interfaith Dialogue
BICARA HWPL – Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organisation dedicated to achieving world peace through education, dialogue, and cooperation, together with the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), a global youth organisation committed to empowering young people as agents of peace, successfully held the Youth Interfaith Dialogue Training online on Saturday, 4 July 2026.
The training served as the next stage of the Youth Empowerment Peace Class
(YEPC), providing selected participants with practical experience in interfaith
dialogue.
Tiurma, Chair of IPYG Indonesia, explained that the YEPC programme is designed
to equip Indonesian youth to become peace leaders capable of creating positive
change within society.
"Through the YEPC programme, we aim to develop young people into Peace
Envoys and Peace Ambassadors who can represent Indonesia. We also hope to
encourage more young leaders to actively participate in collaborative peace
initiatives so that the values of peace can be translated into meaningful
action within society."
The training was organised as an interfaith dialogue, bringing together
speakers from three different religious backgrounds: Darmadi, Supervisor of the
Gurukula Community, representing Hinduism; Abdullah Ubaid, Chairman of ISNU
Tangerang, representing Islam; and Thomas, Instructor at Berean Community,
representing Christianity.
Each session encouraged participants to compare perspectives across different
scriptures rather than debate doctrinal differences. Unlike discussions that
focus on theological debate, the training encouraged participants to understand
one another through respectful dialogue and comparative learning, helping them
identify shared values that can contribute to peaceful coexistence.
Representing Hinduism, Darmadi emphasised that peace begins with recognising
the relationship between humanity, God, and creation.
"God is the owner of all things and is present in every part of creation.
Just as parents do not wish to see division within their family, God also
desires humanity to live in unity and care for one another."
Representing Islam, Abdullah Ubaid highlighted the importance of recognising
God's constant presence in everyday life.
"Indeed, God is near—closer than our own jugular vein. God is not confined
by space, time, or any dimension of the universe. Therefore, we should always
acknowledge His greatness and remain conscious that His presence is constantly
with us."
Representing Christianity, Thomas explained that lasting peace begins with
personal transformation.
"War often begins with conflict within ourselves. Therefore, the greatest
battle is a spiritual one, won not through violence but through love and
truthful words. In the Bible, fire is also used figuratively to represent the
Word of God."
Throughout the training, participants
actively exchanged perspectives, asked questions, and reflected on common
values across different faith traditions. Many expressed greater confidence in
engaging in respectful dialogue ad a deeper appreciation for religious
diversity. Through programmes such as YEPC and interfaith dialogue training,
HWPL and IPYG aim to cultivate young leaders who can promote peace by
facilitating dialogue among different religious communities and encouraging
beyond religious differences.
